8/12/2015 Smoke and poor visibility lead to road closure near Crater Lake NP

The Crescent Fire, one of the two fires that make up the National Creek Complex burning in the NW corner of Crater Lake National Park, is affecting travel in the vicinity due to smoke.  The text below is an update from the Inciweb page about this fire.  See more about the fire at this link:  http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4463/

Oregon Department of Transportation has closed HWY 230 from mile marker 12 to the junction of HWY 230 and HWY 138, due to smoke and limited visibility. The Crescent Fire is now well established east of Boundary Springs, which is within 1.5 miles of State Highway 230. However, there was no significant spread towards Highway 230 today.
Check the link below for updates on the road closure from ODOT:

In general, air quality in the Park doesn't look too bad.  See image of the caldera taken about 12:30 below.  Conditions can change rapidly though, check live views here: http://www.nps.gov/crla/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm
