Smoke Forecast for Umpqua North Complex -- Aug. 25, 2017

Smoke Outlook:  Umpqua North Complex
Issued for: Friday August 25, 2017
Air Resource Advisor: Jen Croft

Fire Activity:  Current size of complex is reported at 13,546 acres.  Falls Cr, Happy Dog, and Devils remain the primary sources of fire activity as resources continue to secure the perimeter with burnout operations.  Moderate flanking fire and short uphill runs fuel by very dry understory fuels.

Smoke: Very dry large woody debris is completely consuming and producing small columns in the interior.  Aerial ignition operations are planned to assist in securing Happy Dog fire when the visibility improves.  Smoke production during this suppression operation will be moderate along the perimeter and interior voids of the fire area, moving off to the east with minimal lift due to the limited transport winds available.

Tourists at Crater Lake National Park can expect to see and smell smoke. Visitors should check for road closures and other announcements ahead of time.  Visitors can check https://www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisit/conditions.htm for updates.
