The Road to the Coast: Smoke in the Valleys, Smoke on The Vine

Here's a pictorial of our drive from Eugene to Bandon today. Lots of heavy smoke in the Willamette and Umpqua valleys and out to the Coast on Highway 42. Keep checking those forecasts and current air quality conditions and make sure to take precautions when you're outside. It's a good weekend to stay inside when you can. If you have to be outside in the smoke and hot weather heed the advice of health professionals.

Eugene around 10 a.m.

Umpqua Valley around 1 p.m.

Camas Valley around 2 p.m.

Somewhere along Highway 42

Bandon around 3 p.m.

  1. Just drove from Grants Pass to Crescent City. Less than 1k feet visibility the whole way. Crescent City is blanketed in smoke right now.

    1. Hi there, first off that sounds like a fantastic trip. Love Newport. Our forecasts call for a clear coast today. But please do a few things, keep an eye on statewide forecasts here and check local traffic and weather conditions. Air quality is generally better on the coast and there's not an air quality monitor in Newport. You can gauge air quality by using this visibility test: http://www.oregon.gov/deq/aq/Pages/Wildfires-Visibility.aspx Good luck and have a great trip!
