Three Large Wildfires Burning in Oregon Causing Moderate Smoke
Currently, there are three large fires burning in Oregon, two of which are thought to be long-duration fires.
The Bybee Creek Fire located on the west side of Crater Lake has burned 720 acres in timber in the old Bybee Fire burn scar. This fire is expected to be a long-duration fire due to the difficulty of the terrain and heavy fuels.
The Rail Fire has burned 5576 acres in heavy fuels in eastern Oregon, between John Day and Baker City, near the town of Unity. This fire is expected to be a long-duration fire.
The Weigh Station fire is burning on the Umatilla Reservation along Hwy 4, between Pendleton and La Grande. This fire has burned 688 acres, but is not expected to be a long-duration fire.
There are a few other fires less than 100 acres in size burning in the State, including the Blue Top fire, located along the upper portion of the McKenzie River on the Willamette NF, and the Paulina Fire burning 7.8 miles northeast of La Pine.
Today's satellite image showed only a little smoke coming from the Bybee fire and a little more from the Rail Fire, but nothing from the Weigh Station Fire.
The smoke forecast for tomorrow shows moderate amounts of smoke in the areas east and south of the Rail fire and light smoke southwest of the Bybee fire.
