Air quality good, but skies smoky

Wildfires in Northern California have brought smoky skies to Southern Oregon, but air quality remains good. Currently, the smoke is high up in the atmosphere, not down at ground-level where people breathe. Smoke is coming from the Lava Fire near Mt. Shasta and the Tennant Fire near Highway 97. State and federal smoke forecasters expect air quality to remain good for most of Oregon. But the southern border — Ashland, Klamath Falls and Lakeview areas — could see short-term air quality impacts this evening and overnight. Our team will be monitoring it and posting updates as needed. Air quality conditions can change rapidly. Check current conditions on the Oregon Smoke Blog, DEQ’s Air Quality Index or by downloading the free OregonAir app for your smartphone. Smoke forecast for June 29, 3 p.m. Smoke will mostly stay high in the atmosphere.
